Pseudomonas has been used to clean up many oil spills over time. One of the most famous oil spills in which bioremediation was used was the
Exxon Valdez Oil Spill. The word Pseudomonad comes from Greek and means "false unit". Pseudomonas was observed as early as 1894, "but in the year 2000, the complete genome sequence of pseudomonas species was determined".
